Free yourself from the keyboard to streamline your activities. Take control of yor music from across the room, flip through a presentation in front of an audience, or sit back and relax with a movie. Uses for the Apple Remote are limited only by your imagination with Mira. Spotlight: Making Music with ReasonSimon Frettsome of Bedroom MusicianFor a number of years, Propellerhead's Reason has been my favourite music making application. Its UI has always been intuitive and designed in such a way to help musicians make music without having to become computer programmers. However, like most music software, what you gain in usability and bang for your buck, you lose in terms of hands-on control. One of the best parts of having a traditional studio is that you can press buttons or turn dials and things will happen. I managed to partly overcome this problem, by using a midi keyboard and a Korg controller. However, due to the lack of buttons on the Korg, I found I didn't have enough to control the main sequencer controls - play/stop, record and rewind; as I already had the buttons assigned to various other parameters within Reason. ![]() Reason - Rack View I can now walk around my studio listening to my mixes and rewinding and playing sections, 20ft away from the computer.” When I bought a MacBook with its own remote control, I immediately saw the possibilities for using it to control Reason but then quickly realized that the Apple Remote was limited to only a handful of applications. This is where Mira came in. Within minutes of downloading the software I managed to set up a profile on the remote to control Reason. Mira has made my computer studio more fun, as it has untethered me from my mouse and keyboard. I can now walk around my studio listening to my mixes and rewinding and playing sections 20ft away from the computer. I can also remotely activate the record function in Garageband when recording my guitar, and it has freed up my midi controller for other functions now that all the sequencer controls have been taken care of with the Apple Remote.
