Announcement: Away from OfficeWe will be away from the office from Wednesday April 8th until Friday April 17th. Any shippable orders made during that time will be shipped on or after April 17th. The site's other features will continue to run in an automated fashion and there should be an auto-responder on all email addresses as a reminder. If at all possible, save any emailing until after April 17th because it will be our first opportunity to reply - we won't have access to email while out of the office. Any shippable orders received before 4PM EDT Wednesday April 8th will be shipped before we leave. Thank you for your understanding, and we'll be in touch next week! Promotion: Ending the 12 Sales of Christmas with a bangToday we're offering our most ambitious promotion ever. Along with steep discounts we're doing something special. Giving away as-yet unreleased products. Yes, multiple products - both hardware and software. If you buy anything from us during this extra-special promotion you will receive absolutely free, one of every new product we release this year, regardless of what its retail price will be (including free shipping). What we can't do right now is discuss what's coming along nor when the release dates will be. But we promise you'll be very pleased. Promotion: The 12 Sales of Christmas - Every day something differentCustomers visiting us over the past couple of years may remember that we usually offer some type of discount or sale at this time of year. In fact we've often done multiple promotions, having participated in MacSanta since its inception. This year MacSanta wasn't to be and instead of waiting until our normal after-Christmas boxing day or boxing week sale, we've decided to do something different. For the next 12 days we'll be offering a random assortment of discounts. They won't be announced in advance, so you'll have to visit on any specific day to see that day's deal. Shipping discounts, free shipping, percentage discount on a specific product, percentage discount on whole cart, freebies, one super-secret bonus gift and more - visit to find out what's happening on any given day. The promotion runs from December 25th 2008 through January 5th 2009. The "daily" schedule won't run on a fixed 24-hour timetable, so you may see two different deals on the same day, depending at what times you visit. When it's over it's over. We're sorry, but no rainchecks. Visit the site often. Announcement: Lower shipping rates for international destinationsWe're pleased to announce that we've lowered shipping rates to most countries worldwide (excluding USA and Canada). The decrease is modest, but significant nonetheless in consideration of ever-increasing rates and add-on fuel surcharges imposed by the carriers. These rates should be effective through-out the new year. At the same time, we have equalized shipping through-out Canada so that every locale in every province will now pay the same rate. This lowers the price for more than half the provinces, but increases it for the others. We were charging less than our cost for shipping to many destinations and at this time we simply can't continue doing so. If you have a problem with Canadian shipping rates, please accept our sincere apologies, but Canada Post simply charges much more for shipping within the country than it does to the outside. We hope this situation will be able to change in the new year as we look for alternate carriers to service our customers. New Release: Mira 1.3.3 - ¿Habla Español?We asked and you answered. Thanks to our good friend Angel Bujosa Bestard, Mira now speaks Spanish. It's been a long time coming and we're extremely happy it's now in place at least in the main application. If you'd like to see Mira translated to your language, please let us know by sneding us feedback. A couple of new built-in profiles have also been added, one for Boxee and another for OpenOffice. Some tweaks and small changes round out this update, including one important one to the installer which will help prevent any installation mixups with older versions.
Please see the Version History page for additional details. This update is recommended for all customers. Announcement: One Week Prize Giveaway WinnersCongratulations to our winners. Main Prizes:
Promotion: Tiny HUGE Sale 3 + One Week Prize GiveawayThe third annual Twisted Melon Birthday Blowout Sale is here. For a tiny amount of time you can buy any of our products for HUGE savings. A lot has changed over this past year, not the least of which was moving to a new home and getting married in late April. More recently we were very pleased to release our unfortunately delayed series of updates to bring Mira to a compatible level with Mac OS 10.5 Leopard. There are more updates coming in the weeks ahead and hopefully a bit more good news early next year (stay tuned). As we've done for the past two years, we're passing along good fortune and wishes to all our friends around the world and offering the contents of our store at a discount. For the second time we're also going to be giving away some prizes which you can see below. It's the perfect opportunity to pick up an extra Mira license for an additional computer or our Manta TR1 IR transceiver to add support for the Apple remote to any USB Mac (with Mira). A big THANK YOU goes out to all our friends and customers for supporting our company and choosing our products. We really appreciate your business, advice, insight, comments and dedication. We'd really appreciate it if you'd pass the word along to some additional people in whatever way you'd like (a nice blog or news posting would be amazing :) Details:No rainchecks or backdating on sale prices. iPods delivered by courier directly from the Apple Store where available, otherwise delivered via ExpressPost directly from Twisted Melon. But we're not done.
We had a couple of offers for the above, but unfortunately they fell through. If you think you can help to localize Mira to one of these languages, please contact us. We're very much interested in a community effort on this task rather than being contacted by professional translation companies. New Release: Mira 1.3.2 - Small tweaksWe're happy to announce a small update to Mira, version 1.3.2. This release notably adds built-in support for Plex Media Center and Brazilian Portuguese localization (thanks to Bruno Casarini Grillo) Apart from the above, we've also updated the built-in icon for Front Row (so you can see an icon regardless of what Front Row version you're using), internally tuned up a few profiles and removed a pesky left-over console message some people were seeing. Because we missed some details in the last release news item, the abridged version information for 1.3.x up until now is:
Please see the Version History page for additional details. This update is recommended for all customers. Announcement: Listed currency changing back to USDA year ago we changed over our online accounting and pricing to Canadian Dollars due to the sharp decline in the US Dollar. We struggled with the decision, but in the end it was something we had to do. The past quarter has shown some increased stability in the US dollar and it's been holding its position against the Canadian favorably. We feel comfortable having watched the foreign exchange market for some time, that we're pleased to announce that pricing will once again return to a USD base. As of Friday October 10th, all pricing in our online shopping system will be listed and charged in US Dollars. As usual, foreign currency transactions will continue to be converted by our payment processor. Thank you for your previous feedback on this topic, we're sure very many customers will be pleased to resume doing business in USD. New Release: Mira 1.3.1 - Taming the LeopardAs you may notice, Mira 1.3.1 has been released and includes compatibility updates for Mac OS 10.5.x Leopard. The most important of the updates is a built-in mechanism to work around the Apple bug that has caused double-actions for many people. There are more updates on the way, including a more detailed news item, but for now, download the new version and ennjoy the last weekend of the summer! Please see the Version History page for additional details. This update is recommended for all customers. Announcement: Wedding Bells Away-From-Office NoticeThis notice should have been up this past week, but I hope everyone can understand why it wasn't. Read the other news items and the wedding blog post for additional info. :) We will be away from the office from Sunday April 20th until Tuesday May 13th. Any shippable orders made during that time will be shipped on or after May 13th. The site's other features will continue to run in an automated fashion and there should be an auto-responder on all email addresses as a reminder. If at all possible, save any emailing until after May 13th because it will be our first opportunity to reply - we won't have access to email while out of the office. Any shippable orders received before 2PM EDT Sunday April 20th will be shipped before we leave. Announcement: Leopard, Leopard oh LeopardAt this time we are aware of a number of issues affecting some customers running Mac OS 10.5.x with Mira. The original problems were thought to be corrected in a System Update from Apple, which we later discovered not to be the case. Unfortunately, our planned "Leopard Update" has been delayed for reasons we're not able to discuss at this time. There are workarounds for the issues affecting Leopard users and we encourage anyone interested in Mira to please try the software before buying. The current system requirements are any Mac running Mac OS 10.4.x, but we will help anyone get by any Leopard issues using these workarounds until our update is ready to be released. If you are interested in a Manta TR1 receiver, please feel free to buy the unit without the software so that you can try the downloadable version before registering for a license. The hardware is refundable (minus shipping) and also works with a number of other programs at this time if you so desire. Mira comes with free updates for all 1.x versions, so rest assured you will not have to pay anything when the next updates are released. When contacting us, please reply to the support address from your confirmation email(s) or use the contact form on the site. Please make sure to mention exactly what system you have, what OS version and what kind of problem you're seeing. We'll need that information to help you. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Packing, Moving, Unpacking and More UnpackingWe're sorry for the lack of updates lately. Finally we're starting to get settled in to our new location after a lengthy move. As many people know, we took down our office late last year and spent a significant amount of time this year packing up our home as well. In mid March the move finally happened and the past few weeks have been spent in a long unpacking and setup nightmare. It seems that no matter how well you pack or label everything, there're always a ton of time spent looking for that one little important doo-dad or widget that you need to hook things up. Internet setup went smoother than anticipated and the office network was at least active after a few days. Over the past two weeks we have a bunch of the cabling pulled for the rest of the network and router, switches and racking at least partially installed. During this time I've personally been unable to visit the forums and have been doing my best to keep up to date with email. Turn-around time is still a lot longer than I'd like, so I ask for your continued patience. Shipments are still going out twice per week and confirmation emails are being sent out +/- 1 day from the date of shipment. There was a back-log which we worked very hard to get through for the week of the actual move in mid March. Going forward there still won't be any time to visit the forums and updates to the blog on the site are not going to be regular any time soon. There's still a lot of setup to do after moving and it's going to be stretched out a bit because of another commitment, I'm getting married next week in Europe. Giveaway and qualification are void where prohibited by law. Announcement: Listed currency changed to CADWhile we have always, and continue to cater to a global market place, all prices at Twisted Melon have historically been listed in US Dollars. This provided a happy medium since the USD was a primary trading currency around the world and easily recognized. It made things very simple for us as well, since many of our expenses could also be transacted in USD. In recent months the USD has been on a steady decline while the Canadian Dollar has seen modest gains. This has left Twisted Melon in a very precarious position. Outside of our US expenses, the rest of our income must eventually be converted to CAD, and with the very unfavorable rates now in effect, we're seeing a sharp decline in income. For every US$1 we're currently receiving only CAD$0.94. That's a 6% loss on a "par" dollar. Now compare this to mid 2006 when every US$1 produced CAD$1.10. To mitigate these losses we have changed the currency on our products to Canadian Dollars. Even with higher fees (for us) associated with managing the Canadian dollar online, the benefits are still significant over all. This change should not affect the transaction process for our customers since our payment processor and your financial institutions will continue to handle the necessary conversions automatically. With the strong UK Pound and Euro, many customers will still be taking advantage of the weaker Canadian dollar, while US residents will notice a small bump due to the currency exchange. On individual transactions this is not a very significant effect, but over all we need this change to be able to do business as usual. Thank you for your continued patronage, we couldn't be here without you. Announcement: Manta TR1 USB IR Receiver back in stockYou've been patient while we were out of stock, many of you registering for availability notification and quite a few offering to pre-order. The wait is over and we're once again shipping Manta TR1 units at full capacity around the world. Stock was replenished last week and we began taking orders again this past Friday, without an announcement, to give us a chance to prepare the shipping materials and deal with the initial order flow. As always, Manta is available in our online shop.

Security Update 2007-004 1.1 fixes recent Double Actions issue (10.4.9)Update: September 2008Please download Mira 1.3.1 or newer as it includes a built-in mechanism to prevent the double action issue for both Tiger and Leopard systems. The recent Apple Security Update 2007-004 for Mac OS 10.4.9 has altered a HID (Human Interface Device) driver which is preventing Mira from gaining exclusive access to the Apple IR Receiver on some systems. Customers affected by this issue may notice two actions taking place when some remote buttons are pressed, such as Front Row launching in addition to the Launch Menu when pressing the Menu button in the Global Profile. Apple is aware of a number of incompatibilities with the first version of their Security Update 2007-004 and issued a replacement on May 1 2007. Please download and install this update. For Intel 10.4.9, download Security Update 2007-004 version 1.1 (Universal) For PPC 10.4.9, download Security Update 2007-004 version 1.1 (PPC) We have also created a work-around for this issue which disables the standard actions. A restore option is available to return them at your convenience. If you ever require this work-around, download it here: AppleRemoteFix.dmg A permanent FAQ has been created to document this issue. Use the new SiK Rex™ Remote with Mira and Manta TR1SiK has just released Rex, their new mini remote that fits into the ExpressCard slot of any MacBook Pro. It's compatible with the Apple Remote as well as Mira and the Manta TR1 transceiver. Now you have a new remote choice regardless of what Mac you use. Using Mira, the Rex gains the ability to control any application on your Mac using your existing built-in IR receiver. If you don't have a built-in receiver, not to worry. The Manta TR1 adds IR support to any Mac with USB, so you can use the Rex on that PowerBook, G4 Mac mini or Mac Pro without a problem. You can purchase the Rex directly from the SiK web site today. We also plan to add the Rex to our online store very soon so you can take advantage of one-stop shopping and special bundle pricing. New Release: Mira version 1.2.8We're pleased to announce Japanese language support and that German and French have been expanded to cover a few missing elements from previous versions. Mira also includes the ability to localize custom action names per profile. This update also adds built-in support for the following applications:
Make sure to download the latest versions of the above applications to make sure they're properly supported by Mira. Please see the Version History page for additional details. This update is recommended for all customers. Mira version 1.2.7r2 - Issues fixedWe've updated the 1.2.7 download to release 2 (r2) which addresses the incompatibility caused by a couple of the new profiles. The next point release will include another update to provide even more robust support for localized action descriptions in profiles. Mira version 1.2.7 - Some issues with localizationWe have to apologize and ask for your patience as there are a couple of issues with localization that may cause Mira to crash when using the French or German UI. This may happen at startup or when using the Restore Profiles feature. We are working to correct these issues and will post an update shortly. New Release: Mira version 1.2.7 - with Keyspan IR receiver support!Over 60 applications, including additional games are now supported by default in Mira. This version brings a brand new French UI courtesy of Michel Tribet. You can also look forward to more languages coming soon. Contact us if you're interested in helping to translate Mira. Also of note is complete support for the Keyspan series of IR receivers using the Apple Remote. You must uninstall the original keyspan software to use Mira with your receiver. This update adds built-in support for the following applications:
Make sure to download the latest versions of the above applications to make sure Mira is fully supported. They're all must-have programs, so get them all. Please see the Version History page for additional details. This update is recommended for all customers. Shipping Schedules: Holiday JamsWe're currently processing shipments twice per week, which means orders typically ship out up to 3 days after they're placed. However, if an order comes in the morning hours on a processing day, it will ship the same day. The standard service we're using is First Class Air for all international orders, including the United States, and Expedited Parcel for Canada. Orders have typically taken between 2 and 7 business days to reach their destinations (including most points in Europe). During this time of year there is an enormous increase in global parcel and mail delivery which puts a strain on delivery standards in every country. It is normal for packages to take a longer time to reach their destination. For recent orders to Europe it is likely delivery will not make it before Christmas. To the US the delivery window likely closes this week as well. We love getting our own packages as quickly as possible too, so we would like to ask for your patience at this time. Depending on volume we may also try to process three times per week - rest assured we're here at all times to help you with any questions or concerns. MacAppADay: The AftermathThank you so much for joining us in this special event - Twisted Melon's chance to give back to the community that supports us. We sincerely appreciate all the positive comments and your patience during this time of very high server load. If you have not received your complimentary license for Mira 1.2.6 there is no need to worry. As long as you submitted your registration details we have a record and you will be able to claim your license any time by using our Re-mailer. For those of you who were not able to download Mira 1.2.6 due to server loading issues, please take a moment and obtain it now from our promo page. This version of Mira is not yet featured on the other download links through out our site - you're getting a head start on our newest update. Please also note that your licenses require 1.2.6 and will not work in older versions of Mira (you will get a message saying the license may be corrupted). Just download 1.2.6, install and then double-click your license file again. We will respond to all mail, but please try using the re-mailer mentioned above to obtain your license. And make sure email from us isn't getting trapped by junk and spam filters. We have a lot of mail to catch up on which we will try to do before the end of the week. Keep in mind we also have the business to run and a lot of other obligations to stay on top of. A little patience is all we ask. ;) Have a great weekend and Happy Holidays - we hope you're off to a good (and early) start. And one more thing... Even though the give-away part of the promotion is over, anyone visiting from MacAppADay can save on Mira during December 9th and 10th. German localization of the UI is also complete and a preview of the German help system is included. This update adds built-in support for the following applications:
Make sure to download the latest versions of the above applications to make sure Mira is fully supported. They're all must-have programs, so get them all. A small issue affecting a number of customers was also corrected. It caused Mira not to recognize an already-connected external IR receiver upon initial boot or reboot on some systems. Please see the Version History page for additional details. This update is recommended for all customers. Back in Stock: Manta™ TR1 Infrared (IR) TransceiverWe're pleased to announce that the Manta TR1 is back in stock and available to order from our brand new online shop. Shipping is available worldwide! Not all Macs feature an Apple Remote “in-the-box” nor a built-in IR receiver, including the latest Mac Pro desktops. That's no longer a problem with the Manta TR1. The debut product in the Twisted Melon Manta line, the TR1 is an infrared learning transceiver (receiver/transmitter) that connects to an available USB port and along with mira, enables enhanced use of the Apple Remote on any Mac with Mira.
Highlights
The Manta TR1 is available directly from the Twisted Melon online shop and is priced at $19.99 (US). It is also available as a package with Mira for $32 and special pricing is available for volume purchases (please contact us for details). New Release: Mira version 1.2.4German localization makes its debut in Mira 1.2.4. Over 95% of the UI is now available in German, with the remaining bits and and the Help system to follow shortly. MediaCentral now has its own profile and Mira also now comes with a default profile for the game Bloxter. Rounding out the update are additional DuoPress commands for QuickTime, iPhoto, Preview and the global set, as well as some tweaks to the profiles for QuickTime and iPhoto. As always, please see the Version History page for additional details. New Release: Mira version 1.2.3Over 50 applications, including a number of games are now supported by default in Mira. New profiles are as easy as ever to create and importing and exporting make it a breeze to share them. This update brings support for the games: iColumns, Pac the Man, Bub & Bob 2 and more as well as Stapler from Blue:Tec and Aperture from Apple. The Apple Remote will now work on any supported system with any version of Aperture. Some small issues with interference from third-party remotes and MCE receivers were also corrected and the iTunes DuoPress actions were enhanced with the ability to embed downloaded artwork into selected songs. Please see the Version History page for additional details. This update is recommended for all customers. New Release: Mira version 1.2.2With help from some patient customers, we've been able to identify and fix a small issue that has been part of every release, a missing authentication window when trying to activate registration. A work-around for this problem, which affected approximately 1% of customers, has been available in the Mira FAQ since August when the problem was first found. The issue specifically affected customers with FileVault enabled or certain configurations with volumes having “Ignore ownership” enabled. Please see the Version History page for additional details. This update is recommended for all customers. Info: (Fixed) Safari might download with the wrong file nameIt's just come to our attention that some people downloading with Safari 2.0.4 (the current version) were having problems opening the Mira dmg file. It turns out that Safari had been changing the file name of the download for some people from “mira_1.2.dmg” to “mira_1.2.dmg.bz2” When you would try to open this file, Mac OS thought it was a BZip archive and wouldn't open it properly. The solution was to rename it to a plain .dmg extension at the end and it would open fine. We've put up a new file for good measure (this one contains Mira 1.2.1) and have also added some special magick to our server configuration to make sure Safari doesn't make this mistake. Please contact us if you still see this issue. New Release: Mira version 1.2: The Apple Remote for every MacAnyone with a Mac can use the Apple Remote thanks to the latest version of Mira. If your Mac has USB and supports Mac OS 10.4, find yourself an Apple Remote, a supported IR receiver and download Mira. New release highlights
While working on new core features we thought a lot of people might be getting left out in the remote-less cold. There are plenty of Macs out there with many years of life left in them and even the new Mac Pro comes without a remote or built-in receiver. With the Apple Remote you can control your presentations from the other side of the room, browse documents while leaning back in your comfortable chair, control your music, movies, video streams and even play games, all without ever touching your computer. With built-in support for over 40 applications Mira gives you a head start without the need to configure or set anything up. We've highlighted just a few real-world activities people are already enjoying today on our new Solutions page. You can add new profiles and settings without creating them yourself with the new Import feature. Complimented by the Export feature, customers can easily share their custom configurations, for one or more applications, on the internet. A special Twisted Melon forum has been set up to host these files and is available for anyone to use — you don't even have to be a member to download. Twisted Melon has added support for USB IR receivers directly into Mira in a way that will support additional hardware in the future. This release supports our new Manta TR1 Transceiver as well as all MCE/eHome 2005 (Media Center Edition) receivers and transceivers. The MCE/eHome units are found with many Windows MCE systems and available online as well as in local computer shops. Future versions may add support for other receiver products released by Twisted Melon or requested by customers. New Product: Manta™ TR1 Infrared (IR) TransceiverNot all Macs feature an Apple Remote “in-the-box” nor a built-in IR receiver, including the latest Mac Pro desktops.

This minor update provides an enhanced implementation of the Multi Action system which will enable many additional exciting features in forthcoming releases. Other improvements include additional profiles for various Mac browsers, updated preference handling and small corrections in the online help system. Version 1.1 replaces the original version and is available now. Simply download and run the new installer, it will automatically update the previous copy and all profiles. Announcement: mira™ Personal Control for Your Apple RemoteIf you've hit the front page of the site or seen the press release, you already know about Mira. With this extremely convenient and versatile preference pane your Apple Remote can be used with pretty much any application on your Mac. Starting seconds after it's installed, Mira supplies pre-defined actions for 20 applications as well as global default actions that work with any application. New applications can be given their own specific actions in a few seconds with virtually no learning curve and definitely no additional software, plugins, scripts or anything else to download or install. If you know how to use your favorite applications with a mouse and keyboard, you can make them work with the Apple Remote. That's just the start, because Mira also lets you switch between applications using the standard Mac OS application switcher. A custom Launch Menu can also be used to open and select any of your favorite applications. You choose what appears in that menu and even what it looks like. Of course you can choose which remote button activates it (which can be the same or different while using any other application, you decide). Mira has a strong history behind it, as the Twisted Melon team have been designing remote control software for over six years. A bright future is also ahead with a solid roadmap already laid out. Download your own copy of Mira today and give it a spin. You can access all the features right away with modest limits until it's fully registered, which can be done for USD$16 from our secure payment system. Release: Twisted Melon debuts mira™ — Personal Control for Your Apple RemoteToronto, Canada, June 30 2006 -- Twisted Melon, Inc. releases its first Mac OS title, targeted at customers with a passion to do things their own way. Mira takes the stylish Apple Remote beyond its simple Front Row origins, customers get truly personal customization and control for any application — simply. Mira can be configured to work with any application in a matter of seconds and comes with pre-defined support for 20 popular applications built-in. Twisted Melon believes in standards-based design and has implemented Mira as a Mac OS Preference Pane. Employing a user-centric design principle, there is no need to install plug-ins or special modules to accomplish virtually any task in any application. Mira supports an unlimited number of applications and automatically detects which is running, matching it to the customer's personal settings. To extend the versatility of a limited six button design, Mira comes with an attractive Launch Menu, providing a large configurable menu to open favorite applications. Special Multi Actions further extend button usefulness with support for Short and Long pressing of the same button as well as application state detection for multiple actions on a single button. Customers can also send keystrokes directly to the current or any other running application, use special system actions such as volume, brightness control, sleep, mouse wheel scroll events, Mac OS application switcher and more. mira's Open action supports applications, documents, URLs and AppleScripts (which are run transparently, without invoking any external programs). Built-in profiles include: Front Row, VLC Media Player, EyeTV, AlchemyTV, Keynote, Powerpoint, Preview, Acrobat and many more. Mira is available to try immediately from the Twisted Melon web site (http://twistedmelon.com) and can be purchased for USD $16. It's Alive! (Hello World)Licensing agreements, terms of use, privacy policies and crashing ftp programs. It all makes the design and markup process seem rather simple. But here it is nonetheless, the Twisted Melon web site. A little behind the current schedule but ahead of its initial schedule. In fact, the web site wasn't supposed to premiere until the completion of an entirely different project, which is still under development. But that's a future news item. We're happy to bring it to the community now along with some fresh downloadable goodness. Like most other sites, TwistedMelon.com is organic and always growing, there's no need for any "under construction" disclaimers because that's implied.
